A4-staal - austenitisch roestvrij staal, heeft een goede weerstand tegen chloor en niet-oxiderende zuren.
Het werd veel gebruikt in de industrie en werd oorspronkelijk ontwikkeld voor papierfabriekmachines. Het is gebruikt in de maritieme omgeving en in een groot aantal gangbare industriële componenten. Componenten voor de pulp-, papier-, olie- en vetindustrie, zeep- en textielindustrie, verfproductie, vleesverwerkende industrie, brouwerijen, zuivelfabrieken en voor chirurgische instrumenten
